The two main groups Brahmin and chhetri have a played a dominant role in the formation of modern Nepal and in the political, social and religious realms. More than half of the Brahmin and chhetri live in the western hills. They are minority in Terai. These Brahmin and Chhetri came to Nepal in the 12th century due to Muslim invasions in India . The main occupation of Brahmin and chhetri are forming, government and military service. Brahmin also acts as family priest. Besides farming chherti and Thakuri men traditionally join the military service and renowned all over the world. The Brahmin considers itself pure and higher than the other. Most of Brahmin and Chhetri is Hindu. They speak National language Nepali. They celebrated he different festival ssuch as Dashain, Tihar, Teej and so on.
Sir, your claim is highly inaccurate. Brahmins did not come to nepal in the 12th century due to Muslim occupations of india. Brhamins are very different from muslims. When Brahmins first came to nepal, they werent muslims, infact, they were speakers of proto indo-european language that evolved to sanskrit. Aryas (Brahmins) came to nepal earlier than the muslim invasions. They came during the indus-valley civilliation from the caucasus mountains. Modern DNA results and archeological evidences prove this. Please stop spreading false information.
ReplyDeleteSandesh, the writer does not imply that Brahmins were once Muslims. He means that the folklore is that Brahmins fled the polities to the west of Nepal and moved into the central Himalayas of what is today Nepal as Muslims dominated much of northern South Asia from 12th c. to 18th c.
ReplyDeleteAs far as I know from my family history, our ancestors did migrate from central Asia, settled in Himachal Pradesh, Gharwal, and Kumaon areas before entering Nepal. I don't think it was due to Muslim threat though, because hilly (pahad) areas were very inaccessible. As far as my grandfather knows, we just resettled looking for new land.
ReplyDeletethe entire MWDR, FWDR of Nepal and Uttrakand area of modern India are the origin of Nepalese Bharamin and chettris. Especially many bahun surnames are kept according to the villages of MWDR and FWDR. For example sarpakot made sapkota, niyapani made neupane etc. Some other surnames were named on the basis of government posts like administrator made adhikari, tax collector made karki, army posts made surname like thapa budhathoki etc.
ReplyDeletethus to say that bahun and chhetri came from india due to muslim is wrong.we are the real inhabitant of western Nepal from thousands of year. we are MADE IN NEPAL not MADE OR MIGRATED FROM India.
Nepalese Hill Brahmins and Chettri along with Thakuri and Dalits are all formerly part of Khas society. The Khas people came into the Indian sub continent around 1000 BCE (meaning 3000 years before). They entered western Karnali of Nepal around 1 - 100 AD.
